General overview

Roll coaters are the core of the painting process.

Coatings must be applied on the metal strip at the required speed in thin, accurate and controlled layers. This is the key to a good business economic outcome, as well as minimizing product waste.

Globus is a market leader in innovation, quality, and performance in the coaters field. Since 1995, Globus has been building a solid experience in the roll coating field, boasting around 200 coaters built, evidencing their capability in integrating these systems into customer production lines or Globus processing lines.

Globus engineers design and develop roll coaters to obtain optimal performances for every required process, including ATEX certification. The combination of Customer needs and Globus technical expertise merges into the best results in terms of efficiency, user-friendly interface, and fast installation.

As a tailor-made suit, each Globus roll coater is customized to match Customer expectations, ensuring a perfect fit for their operational needs.

Passline

No matter the coater architecture, Globus guarantees high accuracy and repeatability of the roll-coating.

Globus has a wide portfolio of configurations to meet space, process, and quality requirements for both new setups and upgrades.

S-Type

This layout allows for either horizontal or vertical strip entry, with the exit always being horizontal, ensuring flexibility in handling.

U-Type

Featuring vertical entry and exit in opposite directions, the U-type configuration optimizes space and process flow.

Vertical

In the Vertical configuration, both strip entry and exit are vertical, simplifying the process with aligned directions.

Horizontal

The Horizontal design ensures a straightforward path, with both entry and exit aligned horizontally for ease of operation.

Special

Globus can design special passline configuration, tailor-made for the customer.

Multiple heads systems

To enable quick color change, Globus designs machines with multiple heads working on the same strip face, allowing one head to operate while the other is on standby, streamlining the painting process.

Side shifting

The side shifting design facilitates machine extraction for maintenance. Another option is to install two parallel machines to speed up the color change, enhancing operational efficiency.

Special configuration

Globus offers custom solutions for non-standard machine configurations, incorporating various systems to meet specific needs.

Nip pressure control

Nip pressure between rolls is adjustable (either manually or automatically) to ensure even paint application and control over quantity.

Manual

Manual adjustment is achieved through hand-wheels and screw-jacks, allowing precise control over nip pressure.

Automatic

Servomotors or stepper motors automate nip pressure adjustments, with equipment that can meet ATEX regulations.

Roll configuration

The coaters can be designed in several ways in function of the application required.

The number of rolls can vary (usually from two to four) as well as the product feeding system, tailored to specific requirements.

Varnishes & Paints

To guarantee different levels of performance and endurance, or to comply with different visual and esthetic requirements, a wide range of coatings have been developed for the pre-painted metal.

Globus coaters are suitable for all the roll-coating applicable fluids from polyester to plastisol, from lacquers to metallic, from EB paints to UV paints, ensuring compliance with various performance and aesthetic standards.

Passivation & Conversion

To enhance the paint adhesion and to prevent the metal strip oxidation, different products could be put on the strip leading to a passivated (or converted) surface.

Globus offers valid coater solutions for the passivation and conversion of product applications.

Product feeding systems

Independently if the fluids are standard or special (like EB-paints), Globus provides product feeding units suitable for each kind of fluids applicable by roll-coating.

Globus machines also include feeding systems for the solvents used to clean the painting heads.

Quick color change

Globus developed coaters with multiple heads that can work alternatively, allowing to have a fast color change. This system is also useful to avoid stopping the line when one of the heads needs to be maintained.

Semi-automatic cleaning system

Cleaning the coater has always been a tough task. To simplify maintenance, Globus integrates semiautomatic cleaning systems for efficient machine washing.

Highly automated configurations

To enhance coating operations’ safety and efficiency, Globus developed several automated configurations:

- Electronically controlled sliding of the motion systems

- Automatic pan positioning

- Roll automatic disconnecting units

- Automatic opening for roll protection

Closed loop for automatic nip pressure control

This system automatically adapts in function of the signal received from the pressure gauge to guarantee repeatability and quality.

Modular coating heads configuration

Coating heads are designed with a modular concept, allowing to implementation of different solutions at different moments, without having to substitute the full coater.

Globus coating heads’ modular design allows for implementation of different solutions in different moments, without having to substitute the full coater.

Here are some of the upgrade options:

- Moving from the manual nip control to the automatic one

- Add the closed loop for the automatic nip pressure control

- Passing from the manual disconnecting unit to the automatic disconnecting unit

- Install an additional roll (increase the configuration from 2 rolls to 3 rolls)
